Pilot Gold - Goldstrike, UT - Jul 2016

Andy Jackson visited Pilot Gold's Goldstrike property on July 14, 2016.  The property is in SW Utah about 20 miles NW of the town of St George. Gold mineralization was discovered there in the 1890s, but most production was during the 1990s, when 209 Koz Au were mined from 12 small pits on the property. The pits are spread out over a 7km strike. Average mined grade was 1.2 g/t Au. The gold was extracted by heap leaching.  Pilot Gold acquired the property in 2014 and is exploring with a view to building a resource and restarting mining.

The mineralization is associated with an unconformity separating Palaeozoic carbonate sediments, typical of those found in Carlin deposits, and an overlying, much younger, sequence of clastic sediments, the Claron formation.  The majority of the mineralization is in the Claron, immediately above  the unconformity.
