Roxgold - Yaramoko, W Burkina Faso - Dec 2013
Andrew Jackson visited Roxgold's Yarmoko deposit in Western Burkina Faso in December 2013. This was an update as it was two years since the first visit.
The Yaramoko permit is 200 km WSW of the capital, Ougadougou. Access is by paved road for 200 km and then dirt track for the last 20 km. It takes 3-4 hours to drive from Ouagadougou. The permit covers 167 km2 and is held 100% by Roxgold. It lies on the eastern margin of the Hounde greenstone belt. Most of the permit is underlain by the lowest unit of the greenstone belt, a series of mafic volcanics. These have been intruded from below by the rising granite domes, so that just a veneer of the broken up volcanics remains as roof pendants, with a series of granitic intrusions exposed by erosion.
All the currently defined resources are contained in the socalled '55 Zone'. It consists of a steeply dipping quartz vein that is dominantly hosted by one of the brittle granite ‘windows’ into the underlying pluton. A 3 g/t cutoff has been used in the resource estimate which gave an Indicated resource of 850 Koz @ 13.9 g/t Au, with an additional 273 Koz @ 9.9 g/t Au in Inferred, for a total resource of 1.123 Moz @ 12.6 g/t Au.
