Hot Chili - Productora and Frontera, N Chile - May 2013

Andrew Jackson visited Hot Chili's Productora and Frontera Cu-Au properties in N Chile on May 12/13, 2013.  Access to the properties is very easy, with a flight from Santiago to La Serena and then a two hour drive on a 2-lane paved highway (being upgraded to 4-lane) to Frontera.   Productora is an additional hour beyond

Productora is not an IOCG as it is sometimes classified.  It is a mineralized breccia
probably venting from an underlying porphyry. The Fe was introduced first during a completely separate event from the later Cu-Au mineralization, although both events used the same structures as plumbing.

Frontera is a typical porphyry with higher than average grades for this belt. Unlikely to be very big (?200Mt) although drilling has indicated that it has good grade continuity to at least 400m. Recent drilling by HCH has confirmed historical grades intersected by Noranda. HCH’s core area covers only one of a series of porphyry apophyses in the immediate area.

The key to both properties is the excellent infrastructure.  Both lie within a few kilimetres of the Pan American Highway and major power lines.  Productora is close to a rail line to the port of Huasco.  Both the rail line and much of the port facilities are owned by Hot Chili's partner in the projects, Chilean parastatal iron and steel producer, CMP. Unlike many other porphyrries vying for producer status, Hot Chili'sProductora and Frontera  properties are at low elevations, 800m and 1300m respectively.
